Our History
The First Clubhouse
The original “New” or “Golf” clubhouse was built in 1925, located closer to the golf course at Forbush and Richardson. This building, now a nursing home, served alongside the original clubhouse to meet the social needs of the community for many years.
Club Foundations & Early Membership
Membership, as outlined in the 1930 Articles of Association, was limited to lot owners in specific West Bloomfield Township subdivisions. C. E. Drake was named the Club’s first president. One of the earliest challenges was establishing definite boundaries for Twin Beach Golf, Riding and Country Club, which excluded some property owners from membership.
Under pressure from real estate developers to admit all property owners, the Board agreed to transfer the Club charter to developer Frank S. Salter for a ten-year period. In return, Salter committed to maintaining, operating, and managing all club facilities and constructing an additional nine holes. As part of this agreement, the Club’s name was changed to Twin Beach Country Club, and Dudley E. Whiting became its second president.
The Great Depression & Member Takeover
Born during the Great Depression, the Club faced severe financial hardship. Even the $5.00 annual maintenance fee was difficult for many members to afford. Plans for expansion and additional facilities were abandoned as economic conditions worsened. After the 1933 Bank Holiday, hopes for outside funding vanished.
In response, the Board petitioned Union Guardian Trust Co. for supervisory control, which was granted. In 1939, the Club successfully secured legal ownership of its properties through the Oakland County Circuit Court.
Planning & Construction of the Present Clubhouse
Prior to 1954, Twin Beach operated strictly as a 9-hole course with nine tees. Over time, interest grew in expanding the course, setting the stage for future realignment and development.
Planning for the current clubhouse began in the winter of 1953. Final approval was granted at the April 3, 1954 spring meeting, construction commenced, and the clubhouse opened in time for the 1955 golf season to better serve golfing members.
Course Realignment
In 1954, the construction of the new clubhouse required a realignment of holes. This marked the beginning of gradual expansion, ultimately creating 18 distinct holes. The final adjustment came in 1980, when tees for holes 9 and 18 were relocated onto newly acquired land.
Clubhouse Expansion & Course Improvements
In 1958, major additions were made to the clubhouse, including the dining room, expanded men’s locker room, and club storage area. That same year, a comprehensive fairway irrigation program began, starting with holes 6 through 9 and later expanding to the entire course.
True to its name, Twin Beach Country Club featured multiple beaches along Middle and Upper Straits Lakes. Two beaches at the foot of Middle Straits near Green Lake Road were known as “Twin Beach,” giving both the subdivision and the Club their name.
A Lasting Legacy
For more than fifty years, Twin Beach Country Club has served the recreational needs of thousands. The Club honors those who laid its foundation and recognizes its responsibility to preserve this legacy for future generations.

Have been a member for several years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It's the best value for a private club! Course is challenging but very playable. I love that it's also walkable. Also has a terrific restaurant. You should check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Each spring my husband and I look forward to the golf season at TBCC. We cannot rave enough about the management to the excellent way the course is maintained to the delicious food the Chef prepares.
